Poetische Formulierungen, sprachliche Eleganz und intertextuelle Referenzen sucht man hier vergebens. So habe ich auch eine Weile gebraucht, um den Wert dieses eher ungewÃ¶hnlichen Klassikers zu erkennen."My Place" ist die Lebensgeschichte einer Australierin, die von ihren Aborigine-Wurzeln zunÃ¤chst nichts weiÃŸ. Sally Morgans Werk war ergreifend... nachdem man sich durch eine Never ending story durchgelesen hat... Der Einstieg war lang und langweilig. Das Ende, die letzten 30 Seiten, waren allerdings wirklich sehr egreifend.MÃ¶glicherweise ist dieses Buch nicht fÃ¼r MÃ¤nner geeignet, es ist aber ein gutes Werk um die Thematik der stolen generation in der Schule zu bearbeiten. FÃ¼r Englisch Lehrer also kein schlechter kauf. Ob ich meine SchÃ¼ler aber damit martern will, weis ich nicht.

Das Buch hat mich sehr bewegt, denn Sally Morgan beschreibt auf einfuehlsame Weise die Lebensumstaende der Ureinwohner Australiens, die sich dramatisch aendern, als die Europeaer das Land in Besitz nehmen. Dabei ist es nicht die Geschichte beliebiger Menschen, sondern die Geschichte von Sallys eigener Familie. Die Autorin laesst die betreffenden Menschen selbst zu Wort kommen, wodurch man als Leser immer wieder eine neue Perspektive gewinnt. Mehrmals hatte ich feuchte Augen, wenn es z.B. darum ging, wie Sallys Mutter ihrer eigenen Mutter entrissen wurde um nach weissen Massstaeben erzogen zu werden. Das Buch ist ausserdem aeusserst spannend, denn niemand will die Vergangenheit enthuellen und viel bleibt auch am Ende noch offen.Ein Buch das sehr nachdenklich macht, ueber unsere Verhaltensweisen gegenueber anderen Menschen und mich persoenlich ueber ebendiese sehr wuetend macht.Besser in englisch lesen, ist einfach mehr Original!

Wer die moderne Geschichte der Aborigines und die HintergrÃ¼nde der "Gestohlenen Generation" beginnen will zu verstehen, sollte dieses Buch (in Englisch) lesen! Es ist nicht nur ein wundervoller einblick in eine persÃ¶nliche Geschichte, sondern darÃ¼ber hinaus der Spiegel fÃ¼r die gesamte Problematik.Es wird inmittelss an manchen australischen Schulen als Lehrmaterial eingesetzt! Ein Schritt in die richtige Richtung!
